Some Cool Stuff I've Seen The Past Couple Days. A List.

1. A humming bird flitting around my next door neighbors' rose of sharon. It was right next to me while I was watering my rosemary.

2. A tiny lizard, right at eye level, on the boxes of fertilizer at Lowes in Edgewood. He won the staring contest, and dashed away the instant I blinked.

3. A squirrel scurrying up a giant oak tree while carrying a 16oz plastic drink cup, complete with rounded cover, in his mouth.

4. A black swallowtail butterfly who was keeping pace beside me as I rode my bike down Ansley Street.

5. Kate, unable to resist the groove while we listened to Jeremiah's Phat Beats Pandora station. She had the whole shoulder dance, head shake thing going unconsciously while doing her homework. She knows the words to Mary, Mary.

2 weeks ago a hummingbird temporarily was trapped in my garage. The door was open, but he was flying above the door. A couple times he sat down on the opener drive. That is the closest and most still I have ever seen a hummingbird. The little guy eventually found his way out.
Also, I once saw a squirrel chewing bubblegum, but I don't think that ended well.

If the humming bird had been chewing gum...now THAT would be something.

The hummingbird in your garage was attracted by the red thing on the end of the emergency rope that hangs from the opener itself. Hummingbirds go in to investigate, panic, and die in the garage. We spray painted ours brown and the problem went away. This has been a Public Service Announcement brought to you by me.

This morning on my way to work I saw a skinny old guy tagging a bus stop bench with a magic marker. He was kind of half-squatting to get a good angle on it. Then, half mile later, I saw a woman literally shaking her fist at the heavens and cursing. No hummingbirds to report.

Once, on my way to work, I saw a woman leading a blind man down the sidewalk on Roswell Road. Upon closer inspection, I realized she was also workin' the walking stick and I realized, to my day-making delight, that I was witnessing the blind leading the blind. You don't forget that.
