It's a Major Award!

OK, it didn't come with a giant leg lamp, but I won the post of the day award from The Rising Blogger (see my big winner's badge over there to the right?)! Heather won it the other day and I suspect she kindly nominated my post from April 17th.

After I hit "publish" on that one I felt a twinge of regret, considering it poorly composed and self-indulgent. I didn't delete it, though, because I thought if I made it a rule that my posts couldn't be poorly composed or self-indulgent, I wouldn't have a blog at all. And besides, it was my best shot, if awkward, at a show of respect for those who were lost and those who lost them.

It's been a couple weeks now and as I expected, the world is charging on, the news is nearly free of mentions of Virginia Tech now...but I still sometimes think about all those people, because I know they are nowhere near moving on yet. It must feel a little like betrayal for the rest of us to be busy with our lives, while they still feel like theirs are ruined. But, as those who have loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan have pointed out, that is what happens and I just hope they can all find happiness again. Thanks, Rising Blogger (and most likely Heather too) for the recognition!

Congratulations :)

When The Rising Blogger contacted me regarding the award and paying it forward, your post was the one that came to mind. It was by far the most moving post I read on the subject.

I am very proud of you, Lisa! I still say you should write a book, you are very talented!

You are very good. Many of my friends read you and think I'm more interesting than I really am, just because you're my kid sister.

WTF is a leg lamp?

A leg lamp? Why, it's a major award!

Thanks everyone for all the nice stuff you've said. High on your compliments I drafted my Go To Hell letter to work and prepared to make a living as a writer. Then the gas bill arrived.

I started to draft my Go To Hell letter to work, but I got stuck after the 2nd "whereas" paragraph. I need to lighten it up, I think. Write it, like, from the perspective of somebody who just won the MegaBucks. Or maybe go minimalist -- just one sentence. Maybe I'm just lying to myself. But I just know I could write a great novel if I could only finish this Go To Hell letter ... I'm not even sure how to finish this comment ... I hate ellipses ... they're such a cop-out ... is "cop-out" hyphenated? Better Google that ... I smell popcorn ... oops, there's the phone ...

i think you have to write the go to hell letter 1st. and then be poor. and then the creativity is sparked as you write of your corporate experiences from a patio cafe in Europe, getting there with the last pennies you saved from your martyr job as a corporate slave. and then you become an inspiration to all of the other corporate slaves vowing to one day write their go to hell letters. what's life without fantasy?

It's a nice fantasy, except I'm having trouble suspending my disbelief. Do I have a laptop at the cafe? "Table near an outlet, please." How do you say outlet in French? Plus, I hear the plugs are different there. You have to carry all those adapters. And I'd probably be there with all the poets and whatnot telling them in bad French, "Je suis un magicien à Excel," pulling out my proudest spreadsheets, pointing out the graphiques circulaires. Maybe I could learn to whittle, call it "Sculpture primitif" and sell it to tourists.

It should be noted that Leg Lamps are from Italy, specifically the Fragile region.
